Affiliate marketing is a type of display-based marketing in which the company rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer, who makes affiliate marketing their own.
In the case of price per mille/click, the publisher does not care if a visitor is a member of the audience which the advertiser tries to attract and if he can change because at this point the publisher has already earned his commission. It leaves the highest for the advertiser, and, in case of per thousand costs, risk and total loss (if the visitor can not change).
The cost per action/methods of sale require that referred visitors do more than visit the advertiser’s website before the member receives a commission. The advertiser must convert that visitor first. The affiliate is interested in sending the most targeted traffic to the advertiser as possible to increase the possibility of a conversion. The risk and loss are shared between the affiliate and the advertiser.
Affiliate marketing is also called “performance marketing”, the way sales employees usually get compensation. While most people start with an affiliate route and it is definitely the easiest way to go, generating enough traffic to earn only a meaningful income is not easy or fast.

To participate in the affiliate marketing program, you must follow these five simple steps:
- Find and join an affiliate program.
- Choose what to promote.
- Get a unique affiliate link for each offer
- Share those links on your blog, social media platform or website.
- Whenever a person uses your link to make a purchase, take a commission.
Commission fees vary dramatically depending on company and offer. At the bottom end, you will earn approximately 5% of sales, but, with some arrangements, you can earn up to 50%, usually by promoting a class or event. There are also affiliate marketing programs which provide a flat fee per sale rather than a percentage.
How to find affiliate programs?
If you are wondering how to get your feet wet in affiliate marketing, you have some options. Not all companies offer affiliate programs; some companies manage their own affiliate programs, while others use an affiliate network.
Another option is to go to the websites of those products and services that you use and want to see if they have an affiliate program. Large companies often have programs that promote their sites, such as Amazon Associates or Shopify Affiliate Program.
You can also adopt a more direct approach. Contact the owner of a great product that you find and see if it provides an affiliate marketing program. If they do not, they may be happy to make an agreement with you, as you provide a special coupon code for sharing with your followers. The best deal is often found when you first ask and have a relevant distribution channel, such as if you are a health and wellness blogger, then approaching the seller of a new fitness product.
Affiliate marketing programs will have the terms of service you should follow, so read the fine print. For example, your link will usually have a cookie with a specific time period, and some programs do not allow you to buy ads per click with the product or company name.
